TLID2003A: Handle dangerous goods/hazardous substances

Fire Training and Safety Services provides nationally recognised training for workers required to handle or transport dangerous goods and hazardous materials within warehouse operations, production activities.

This course is delivered as a structured training format at nationally accredited level. The course is conducted utilising the 7th edition of the Australian Code for the Transport of Dangerous Goods by road or rail and a variety of legislative documents including the:

  • Work Health and Safety Act and Regulations (SA) 2012,
  • the SA Dangerous Substances (Dangerous Goods Transport) Regulations 2008, with addition materials derived from the S.A. Dangerous Substance Act and Regulations and
  • various Australian Standards including AS/NZS 3833:2007 The storage and handling of mixed classes of dangerous goods, in packages and intermediate bulk containers.

Generally we will attempt to customise this unit of competency to specifically deal with client requirements and their work related activities.

Our course program will broadly follow:

  • Persons With Special Duties – responsibilities and compliance legislation
  • Classes and Divisions of Dangerous Goods, Subsidiary Risks and Packing Groups
  • Application of Provisions of the Australian Dangerous Goods Code
  • Packaged and Bulk dangerous Goods
  • Segregation (and Separation) requirements, transportation and storage
  • Mixed class storage and Placarding of storage areas
  • Requiring Marking of Packages containing Dangerous Goods
  • Manifests, Consignment notes and Emergency Information
  • Hazchem Emergency Action Codes
  • Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
  • Protective Clothing and Safety Equipment 
  • Fire Extinguisher Requirements for storage and vehicles 
  • Fire responses and spillage requirements.

Accredited, Certified, Nationally Recognised

This course occupy approximately 5 to 6 hours. Course documentation will be provided to each participant along with an assessment both of knowledge, with nationally recognised Statement of Attainment available for those successful participants.

We generally limit our classroom deliveries to approximately 12 participants, so ensuring we can deal with each participant’s requirements adequately.

This course can be delivered at your premises or at one of our training locations.
